Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been the center of attention among Walt Disney World fans since Rise of the Resistance opened in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Crowds are flooding into the park every day to explore Batuu, and experience this incredible new attraction.
Due to this influx of crowds, unsurprisingly, wait times for the most popular attractions in the park are quite long (excessively long, in some cases), and guests who plan to ride Rise of the Resistance need to arrive at the park and get in line well before the park’s opening time. This makes for an incredibly long, exhausting day in the park for guests.
To help relieve some of the exhaustion during such a busy day, we have put together our list of top 3 attractions to take a breather in Hollywood Studios without missing out on the fun during your park day. These attractions are great options whether you are tired from trying to experience as much as possible in one day, or you are looking to stay entertained while you wait for your boarding group to be called for Rise of the Resistance.
This is part 2 of a series of posts that we started last week. In case you missed part 1, click here to check out our top 3 picks for Magic Kingdom. So, without any further ado, here is our top 3 for Hollywood Studios:
Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!
Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! opened in late August 1989, less than four months after Disney’s Hollywood Studios opened. This show takes place in an open-air theater that has seating for 2,100 people, so your odds of getting into one of the multiple daily shows without a FastPass or waiting too terribly long are quite good.
As guests enter the theater, volunteers are selected from the audience to participate in an entertaining pre-show, as well as to participate in the show as extras, along with a real stunt actor who is planted in the audience for each show to add a little extra comic element to the show. Volunteers from the audience that are selected must be at least 18 years of age to participate.
The show is based on some of the most popular stunts from Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. The audience is treated to a dramatic look at what they would experience if they were on a movie set during filming.
This show is action-packed and full of excitement and pyrotechnics that wow the audience for the duration of this 25 minute show. This show is a fantastic way to take a breather while being fully immersed in the action taking place on stage.
For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration
The Hyperion Theater is home to For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration. This show made its debut in July 2014, and moved to its current location nearly a year later.
This 30 minute show provides guests with a comfortable and entertaining break from their day in the park in an air-conditioned theater. The story of Frozen is hilariously told by the Royal Historians of Arendelle.
Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf all make an appearance in this show to join the audience as they sing along to their favorite songs from Frozen.
There are several showtimes throughout the day, allowing guests to plan a break into their day to enjoy this attraction, based on the show time that best fits their schedule.
Not only does this show allow guests to take a breather when needed during their day in the park, it also provides a fairly lengthy relief from the elements on those hot, humid, rainy Florida days.
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
Voyage of the Little Mermaid opened in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in January of 1992. This show combines puppets, live actors, bright colors, lights, lasers, projections on the walls, music from the movie, and even a light rain that falls over the audience.
A pre-show contains artifacts from the movie before guests enter into the theater. Guests are asked to remain in the theater for the duration of this 17 minute show, for safety reasons, because of the special effects used during the show.
Select scenes from the movie are featured throughout the show to tell the story of The Little Mermaid. Songs from the film are featured in this show, and are performed live by the actors in the show.
At the end of the show, the audience is returned to the surface from under the sea as a curtain of falling water covers the stage.
Due to the element of live performance in this show, the guest experience may vary by performance, which allows this show to be a slightly different experience each time.
The length of this show in a comfortable, air-conditioned theater provides park guests with a very enjoyable break from their busy day.
Although we have narrowed down our list to our top 3 attractions, we would like to include a couple of honorable mentions that are also good options when you want to take a breather during your day at Hollywood Studios.
Muppet Vision 3D is a good option to enjoy an air-conditioned show and take a break during your day. 3D experiences aren’t something everyone appreciates or can handle though. If you aren’t a fan of 3D movies, then this may not be your favorite option.
Beauty and the Beast-Live on Stage is another good option for an attraction to enjoy as you take a break from your day in the park. Many people feel that this show is outdated though, since it has gone mostly unchanged since its debut in 1991, the same day the film debuted. Most of the songs featured in this show are pre-recorded.
