The past few days have been full of important dates in Disney history. Today is an especially important day for Disney fans around the world. We have to take a moment to wish Mickey and Minnie Mouse a Happy 91st Birthday!!
On this date 91 years ago, November 18th, 1928, Mickey and Minnie made their debut in the animated short film “Steamboat Willie”.
Walt Disney famously said, “I only hope that we don’t lose sight of one thing- that it was all started by a mouse.” This quote was a very true statement for Disney, and it applies to Dream Chasing in the Mouse House, as well. This blog wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for Mickey and Minnie, and the impact they have had on the world. It seems impossible to imagine a world without Mickey and Minnie. They have left an impression on both of us that will last for the rest of our lives.
Yesterday, November 17th, marked 30 years since the release of “The Little Mermaid”. We both love this movie, and Halie’s favorite Disney princess is Ariel, so we had to make sure to acknowledge the anniversary of the debut of this great movie.
Going back a few days, last Friday marked 54 years since Walt Disney officially announced the “Florida Project” (originally called “Project X”), which we know today as Walt Disney World. After months of rumors spread by the media, Walt Disney held a press conference in Orlando to officially announce his plans for the “Florida Project” on November 15th, 1965, just over one year prior to his death.
Although Walt didn’t live long enough to see his vision for Disney World become a reality, his older brother, Roy, completed the project in honor of his brother.
